Earlier this year, my colleague Ben Wilson reviewed a rather interesting article. Honeycomb Flight Simulator Enthusiast Controller. Since then, it’s also available in an Xbox variant, but it looks like it won’t be the only flight stick controller on the block.
Showcased today is the Project X-Ray Flight Deck wireless controller, designed by Meridian GMT and built by PowerA.
I mean, just look at it. I recently wrote about how As a newbie to Microsoft Flight Simulator, I’m already looking to get a flight stick.partly because there’s a lot to do that’s not too friendly to the controller’s buttons. Project X-Ray laughs at that. Me too.

I admit I’m not familiar with Meridian GMT, but considering the company’s X profile, it seems like the idea of a flight controller that fits within the framework of a regular Xbox controller has been on your mind for over a year.
There’s not much else to know about Project X-Ray beyond the teaser video posted on X and a render on the registration page. There’s no idea on price or release date and it will presumably have a different name when it hits the market.
But what can we say about what we see so far? Well, like the Honeycomb Echo, its purpose is to put dedicated flight controls on one controller. Having support for Xbox from the beginning is huge, meaning that Microsoft Flight Simulator The 2024 console players will not be left hanging.
It manages to squeeze all the controls I’ve been struggling with into one controller. There’s obviously a throttle lever, but also flaps, landing gear, a rotary trim knob, lights/radio buttons, and, instead of a D-pad, dedicated autopilot controls. There’s no view of the rear, however, so there could still be more to come.
I love this though. I want it to be an entire category full of options. Meridian GMT’s desire to use a regular Xbox controller form factor is especially noteworthy. Something that everyone is already familiar with and comfortable holding, while also adding the major physical controls essential for flight.
