Amazon Prime Day is a great time to make those purchases you’ve been thinking about for a while, with discounts on Apple products of up to 25%.
But Amazon is not the only company interested in getting your money. Scammers take advantage of the excitement around the event to find ways to fleece you of your money.
TNW reports that a team of security researchers found that nearly 7,000 fake Amazon domains were registered in the six months leading up to this year’s Prime Day, some of which may be quite convincing.
Check Point Research tracked 6,843 new domains created between December 2025 and May 2026 (…) The phishing infrastructure includes fake Amazon storefronts designed to collect credit card numbers, spoofed login pages that steal account credentials, and email campaigns with subject lines like “Refund overdue, Amazon system error”that direct recipients to counterfeit sites.
Check Point flagged a campaign using a from address that mimicked Amazon’s customer service domain closely enough to avoid casual inspection.
How to protect yourself
Be very careful when clicking on Amazon links in emails or web ads unless it comes from a trusted and well-known source such as 9to5Toys.
Amazon already has card data stored for Prime members, so any Amazon-claimed website asking you to enter or re-enter card data should be an immediate red flag.
Similarly, if Amazon needs to refund you something, it will send you an email asking you to choose between a refund to the original payment method or an Amazon gift card. Under no circumstances will you have to provide any personal data. If an email or refund link asks you to provide your card details, it’s a scam.
