- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could reduce its selfie camera cutout from 3.7mm to 2.5mm, and the same could be seen on the wide version.
- Both phones are expected to use a 10MP selfie camera, so don’t expect better photo quality.
- The launch is expected at the end of July along with the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Samsung could have a smart move planned for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. According to recent rumors, the book-style foldable’s front camera cutout could be reduced from 3.7mm on the Fold 7 to just 2.5mm, giving you a bit more screen on the cover screen. Now, a new rumor says that the Z Fold 8 Wide could receive the same update.
TO post on weibo by reliable leaker Ice Universe says that Galaxy Z Fold 8 wide it will use the same improved selfie camera as the regular Fold 8. This means a smaller 2.5mm camera cutout, which is a small but welcome change that trims the bezel and gives you a little more screen real estate.
The rumor also says that both phones will have a 10MP selfie camera, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. So you’d be wise not to hold your breath for a big jump in image quality.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be left out
But Samsung’s options seem a little confusing here. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 doesn’t seem to receive any camera improvements. Why give the big-screen models a cleaner front and leave out the Flip? We don’t have an answer either.
The leaker suggests that Samsung could bring back under-screen selfie cameras in future models. Samsung abandoned this approach with the Fold 7 last year after using it through the Fold 6. The reason is simple: hiding a camera under the screen hurts image quality, making photos look blurry and soft, which is not good enough for video calls or selfies.
Samsung won’t bring back under-screen cameras just for show. The company will wait until the technology is ready. For now, a smaller punch is the middle ground.
You can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide to launch in late July, alongside the Flip 8.
Android Central’s opinion
A smaller camera cutout is a nice touch, but you probably won’t notice it much when watching YouTube or scrolling through X. That’s not really innovation, though; It’s just a small design adjustment. Buyers deserve more than a “slightly less intrusive selfie crop” as the main feature. Still, at least the Wide version receives the same update. It’s a small victory.
