welcome to Featured Standalone App. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps from the world of standalone apps. If you are a developer and want your app to appear, get in contact.
Most people believe they spend too much time on their phones, but they don’t necessarily know how to do it better. Developer Florian Schimanke has created four great applications to help you with your screen time in different ways. You can get them individually, or you can also buy them all as a package at a discounted rate.
He ‘Before You’ Package offers four apps related to screen time, including:
They all come with similar themed names and they all do what they say on the tin.
Application breakdown
Walk before you move Links to your health data, requiring you to reach your daily step goal before you can use certain apps. It doesn’t have to be a general block of screen time – you can choose what you don’t want to use. But once you’ve committed to your step goal, you won’t be able to use those apps until you reach it. You can set it as high or as low as you want, but the goal is to keep you fit and aware with a slight boost in screen time.
Scan before you can It’s a bit similar in concept to the Brick hardware device you may have heard of. However, instead of requiring physical hardware, it relies on QR codes, and you have to scan the QR code located in another room before you can unlock your apps, which is not easy.
Your day before playing uses Apple’s Reminders API to ensure that you complete your tasks before you can use any apps you put behind your block list, whether they’re social media apps or mobile games. The idea is that work comes first and you can’t get distracted until later.
Finally, Zone before calling It’s a little more exclusive. Instead of being a general screen time management tool, it works based on your location. For example, if you’re at work, you can have it automatically hide certain apps so they don’t distract you, all using Apple Screen Time. You can block arrival or departure from that location and can have up to 20 location zones to track app usage.
Download the applications
Each app in the bundle is priced at $2.99 individually, with no ads or subscriptions required, just a simple one-time purchase. However, if you purchase the bundle, you get four apps for the price of three, priced at just $8.99 for the complete package.
If taking control of your screen time is something you’re interested in, I would seriously consider at least one of these apps. They are all very well thought out ideas, minimalist in design, compatible with tons of Apple technologies so that they feel perfect on the iPhone.
