We’re already looking ahead to I/O 2026 in May; However, Google is apparently teasing a show before the main event to prepare us for the next era of Android.
Google is reportedly teasing what’s coming at its Android Show, which will precede its I/O 2026 conference in May (via 9to5Google). The video, which is no longer available on YouTube as of this writing, indicates that the Android Show: I/O Edition will begin on May 12 at 10 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET). It is speculated that this program will include updates and consumer-oriented information for Android.
The publication highlighted the video’s description, which supposedly positions this year’s fair as the most important to date. Google said: “This will be one of the biggest years for Android yet.” The short teaser concludes by saying, “be the first to get a glimpse of what the future holds.”

It was covered quite a bit last year, so we are likely facing a similar situation.
It’s the Android show
If we take a look to what Google did last yearits Android Show preview (2025 edition) featured its own website. The site, at the time, was fairly brief, only showing the date, time, and a quick description of what users could expect. It’s not much different than what Google has done today (or not today?) with its now-deleted YouTube video. Last year, Sameer Samat, president of the company’s Android ecosystem, and members of the Android team hosted the show.
The show usually airs a week before I/O, and it looks like we’re looking at a similar approach this year as well. The 2025 edition featured some big ideas, such as Material 3 Expressive, Geminithe expansion of Gemini to more devices and scam detection capabilities.
After Google’s round of puzzles, users revealed I/O 2026 datewhich is scheduled for May 19 and 20. We also have a good look at your session list. Google is getting ready to talk about Android 17, its AI software, and big Chrome updates for the year.

The Android Show is like a little space where Google software can shine a little before everything else at I/O. The most curious thing is that the company teased the main highlights of Android 17 for I/O 2026, so what will be discussed in this program? Maybe some UI revamp will appear, along with what’s coming for Gemini that’s important for our phones. The highlights will likely be saved for next week’s main event, but this will serve as an appetizer to move forward.
