Sony has just released a “final trailer” for Spider-Man: New Dayand while there are few new images, there is a lot of excitement. With just under two weeks With the fourth film in the series still to hit theaters, the trailer is mostly made up of footage from the previous three installments to remind us how we got here and what’s at stake. It really works.
Spider-Man: New Day takes place a few years after the events of Spider-Man: No way home, in which Peter Parker (Tom Holland) had to make the world forget that he was Spider-Man. This most directly affected his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). This trailer reminds us of the friendships those three shared, how Peter is handling it now, and shows how everything could play out in the movie.
Of course, there are some new images there. Most interesting is the idea that the film’s likely villain, played by Sadie Sink, could potentially appear as other people. So when we see Michael Mando as Scorpion, who first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecomingit may not actually be him. The distinction between Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and the Hulk is more confusing but also lends itself to this idea. What is Sink’s power and who exactly is she?
More than that, can Peter rekindle his friendships and romance with Ned and MJ? How is that going to work? And then how the heck does all of this line up with the events of those other Marvel movies coming down the road? Avengers: Judgment Day this year, and Avengers: Secret Wars next year?
The good news is that we won’t have to wait long to find out. Spider-Man: New Day opens in theaters next week. We’ll have a review and much more then. Are you excited?
