During an earnings call in January, Elon Musk stated that production of the Tesla Models S and X was coming to an end. “We expect to reduce S and X production next quarter and basically stop production.” Musk said, adding“It’s a little sad, but it’s time to end the S and X programs, and it’s part of our overall shift toward an autonomous future.”
Tesla’s downsizing of its high-end models culminated in the production of a “Signature Series” of upgraded S and X Plaid models with special finishes available to be purchased by a select group of invite-only VIPs, according to a X post from last month by IGN Ryan McCaffrey.

The final Model S, released earlier on Saturday, was shown. being assembled with the signatures of the plant workers already on its panels.
It’s a pretty subdued end to the Model S and X, which has been overshadowed by a shift toward automation and a move away from what were essentially automotive luxury items. Tesla is a separate publicly traded company from its company SpaceX, run by Elon Musk, but they are now more connected than ever through Terafab chip manufacturing project. At the end of last year, Musk was Talking about sending Tesla’s Optimus robots to Mars.
