TL;DR
- Google Health 5.02 is rolling out to iOS and Android devices.
- Changes include improved access to nap data, better editing capabilities, and many general bug fixes.
- Several updates are only coming to Android today, but will soon expand to iOS.
It’s only been a little over a month since Google announced that the The Fitbit app was becoming Google Healthready to support the new fitbit air and provide personalized advice through Google Health Coach. Google isn’t about to let those advances go to waste and is keeping that momentum going with a new Google Health 5.02 update for iOS and Android.
This is actually the second major update we’ve seen since the rebrand, with Health 5.01 arriving back in early June. Now Google shares its latest improvements in Health in a new version community post.
What’s new in Google Health?

Not only did Google manage to pack quite a bit into this update, but the company also shares that this is just a taste of what’s to come, and that more updates should be on the way in the coming weeks.
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to functioning at your best, but there’s a lot to be said for a good nap, too. With this release, Google makes it easier to stay on top of your naps by separating them from your main Sleep Score view in a new tab. Users are also getting more control over their sleep data overall, with fixes for editing data and the ability to completely delete sleep sessions.
Google is also making it easier to stay on top of food statistics with changes to the Nutrition tile on the Today screen, modifying the way calories are displayed. You can view more data directly from the Today screen by pressing the pencil icon and choosing “Expanded view.”

We’re also seeing the return of more detailed daily comments with hourly activity in the Today and Health views. And in addition to some of these new features, there is also a lot of work going on behind the scenes to deal with some edge cases where users were encountering bugs.
Here is the full list of changes from Google:
Today Tab Updates
- More metrics in Today: You can now expand your focus metrics dashboard in the Today tab to see more metrics without having to swipe right or visit another tab. Tap the pencil icon and then select “Expanded View” to see more metrics in Today.
- Easier reordering of your metrics in Today: We’ve made it easier to change the order of your metrics in Today. In Edit mode (tap the pencil icon), you can now tap a metric and then select the metric you want to replace.
Health tab updates
- Easier reordering of key metrics (Android only): We’ve also made it easier to change the order of your metrics in the Key Metrics section of the Health tab. You can now drag and drop to rearrange your charts. Tap Customize, touch and hold the graphic you want to move, and then drag it to the desired location. Available on Android in 5.02. Coming soon to iOS in our next version (5.03).
Sleep updates
- Concern Updates: The Restlessness bar is now closer to the sleep stages graph, so you can better see Restlessness and Awake data together. We’ve also improved the detection of minor moments of wakefulness, with more improvements to come.
- Naps (Android only): Recorded naps are now easier to find and view over time. You can now view your naps in separate tabs in your daily sleep score view. Coming soon to iOS in our next version (5.03)
- Delete sleep sessions: Deleting sleep sessions is fully supported.
- Edit sleep sessions: We fixed an issue where some users were unable to edit their sleep sessions.
Activity and fitness updates
- Activity per hour: Hourly activity returns. View graphs of your hourly activity (goal steps per hour) in the Today and Health tabs. Use the pencil icon in Today or “Custom” in Health to add hourly activity to your dashboards.
- Bug fixes and stability improvements.: We’ve fixed issues with exercise summaries including:
- Steps and distance are incorrectly reported as 0 for certain manually recorded activities.
- Auto-detected bike rides report short distances when they shouldn’t (distance reporting for auto-detected bike rides is not currently supported).
Nutritional updates
- Food Search: Improved speed in search results on both Android and iOS. Results now show serving units and calories on Android. Coming soon to iOS.
- Estimated macros at login: Macronutrient estimates are now displayed on the main registration page, so you can preview them before completing your registration.
- Today’s Tile Updates: The Nutrition tile in Today was updated to include calorie intake (top number) and calories remaining (bottom number), replacing previous metrics that focused on net calories.
Manage records from partner applications
- You can now delete individual workouts, food logs, and weight logs synced from other apps right in the Google Health app without having to visit the Privacy Center. In the Google Health app, tap the session or record you want to delete, then tap the three-dot icon or the trash icon.
- If the session or record was imported from Health Connect or Apple Health, you will be directed to the respective platform to complete the deletion. Note: This will also unregister that platform.
- If the session or record was imported from a direct integration, you can complete the deletion in Google Health.
- In the future, you can delete sessions or records imported from Health Connect or Apple Health in Google Health without having to also delete them from Health Connect or Apple Health.
