Tim Cook’s observance of national holidays is a tradition he has maintained for years, with messages shared on days like Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Last year, he honored veterans by thanking “those who have bravely served our country.” In the past, he has also shared images of veterans working at Apple.

Here’s Cook’s post about Veterans Day 2016:

Unlike last year, when his Memorial Day message attracted large numbers of Critical and politically charged responses. This year’s message was met with mostly supportive and apolitical responses focused on the holiday itself.

This can likely be explained by the timing of President Trump’s announcement of the tariffs last year, which occurred in late April and were still dominating the discussion when Memorial Day rolled around.

And while Tim Cook’s relationship with the Trump administration remains a source of criticism among some users, this year’s responses seemed noticeably less confrontational overall.
