In 2025, Valve announced a new hardware pushed that would see the launch of three devices: Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame. The Steam Controller has been a hot item since its release, to the point that some buyers will have to wait until 2027 to get one. Now it’s finally Steam Machine’s turn as Valve opens pre-orders.
One lingering question hanging over the Steam Machine is the price. Just as many feared, the gaming PC intended for the living room will cost a pretty penny. According valve websiteThe Steam Machine will start at $1,049 for the 512GB model. If you want to include the Steam Controller with it, it will cost you $1,128. Meanwhile, the 2TB version will cost $1,349, and that price rises to $1,428 with the controller.

Valve has opened pre-orders for each of the four offerings mentioned above. If you register to join the list before June 25 at 1:00 pm ET, your place in the reservation queue will be randomized. The company says it is randomizing the order so that bots and people with fast Internet connections are not rewarded. Additionally, to make a pre-order, you must have a Steam account in good standing and have made a purchase on Steam before April 27, 2026.

The company says it only accepts one registration per household and will use information like payment method, shipping address, and more to eliminate multiple entries. However, you can make a reservation for each of the four models individually. If you are assigned a place in the queue for more than one model, your reservation for the highest-end model will be saved and the other reservations will be deleted. Meanwhile, for those who don’t get a spot in the queue, Valve says they will be put on the waitlist for the model they were closest to the front of.
For those who register after June 25, you will automatically be placed at the bottom of the waitlist. According to Valve, it will begin notifying people in queue about their order starting the week of June 29. Also, keep in mind that you will not be able to change the model you reserve. If you do, Valve says you will lose your spot on the roster.
