TL;DR
- Valve just released a new version of its Steam Controller earlier this month.

Video games are full of Easter eggs. Since the early days of Adventure on the VCS (or Atari 2600 for most of you), game developers have been packaging their releases with hidden secrets that can only be accessed by players who have discovered (or, more likely, been told by their friends) the trick to unlocking them. We’ve even seen a few Easter eggs in video game controllers over the years, like the hidden message on the Switch Pro Controlleror the PS5’s DualSense textured finish made up of triangles, circles, crosses and microscopic squares. But now this last one could take the cake as the best one we’ve seen so far.
The valve is in the middle of a big new hardware pushand the first version has been redesigned steam controller. The new gamepad takes heavy inspiration from the Steam Deck controls, and we’ve already seen some nifty accessories announced, like this handy one. Base Grip Support.
As more and more gamers get their hands on the new Steam Controller, it was only a matter of time before someone discovered its surprising hidden Easter egg: the controller. laughter.
Specifically, he lets out a wilhelm cry When dropped from a sufficient height, it produces a classic movie sound effect that you’ve no doubt heard dozens, if not hundreds, of times over the years.
Reddit user RF3D19 discovered and help spread the word about the discovery earlier this week. Initially, it seemed that making the controller scream required being in Steam’s Big Picture mode, but it has since been confirmed that this is not a prerequisite.
Honestly, we love it. This hits all the great Easter egg notes: it’s fun, it’s recognizable, and it’s super easy to show off to your friends. Would it be a little more impressive if it had been hidden a little better? Perhaps, but as satisfying as it is to learn about the discovery of an Easter egg that’s been successfully hidden for years, there’s also something great about being so confident in the joy it brings that you barely try to hide it.

Valve is finally updating its 2015 Steam Controller with a new design that reflects the Steam Deck’s familiar button layout. Supports Steam games on PC, Steam Deck, and even Steam Link on Android.
