Waze Adds Dedicated Motorcycle Mode and ‘Less Chatty’ Voice Settings

Waze may not be as popular as Google Maps, but many years after its acquisition, it maintains its dedicated fan base. all while we continue to evolve. Today, Waze is adding a new set of features that should improve performance while giving drivers more control over their experience.

Waze is rolling out a series of updates to its Android and iOS apps with a focus on tailoring navigation to your specific needs, starting with your typical trips. Using data collected from your previous trips, Waze will suggest routes that follow your usual preferences, such as preferring highways to local streets or vice versa. Additionally, a new “less chatty” voice mode is being rolled out globally to minimize prompts while driving, allowing you to continue listening to your music or podcasts instead of receiving constant instructions.

Motorcyclists are also getting some attention as the summer riding season extends, offering a whole new “motorcycle mode.” Waze says it’s using AI to “incorporate two-wheeler shortcuts and restrictions, helping you find the best route and get an accurate ETA,” although it’s worth noting that Waze didn’t specify what AI means here. The mode is supported by a live human team working to add hazards to your traffic system in real time. The company is rolling out this feature to drivers in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines, and promises more in the future.

Finally, Waze’s Gemini-powered tools are getting a couple of new features. you can use Conversational reports to alert other drivers about road closures and other necessary map corrections, while drivers can also start quick chats to ask about open cafes or low-cost gas stations. Conversational Reporting map updates are now available on Android and iOS, while Quick Chats are rolling out to the beta community.
