Windows Central readers want to remove the mandatory Microsoft account requirement from Windows 11
Removing this required Microsoft account during setup is something I desperately want and I know I’m not alone. It is one of the complaints I see the most when browsing the Windows website.
Windows Central Senior Editor Zac Bowden Polled Our Readers when you covered Hanselman’s answerasking if YOU think Windows 11 should remove mandatory Microsoft account requirements. The results are not exactly surprising.
The survey remains open and I urge you to have your say above if you haven’t already.
As it stands at the time of writing this post, 55% of our readers Respondents said they would use a local account if it were an option. Other 35% said they would appreciate it if both options were available when setting up a new PC.
7% of readers said they would stick with a Microsoft account even if a local account was available, and simply 3% They said they don’t care about the current forced account requirement.
I’m not 100% sure the forced account requirement will ever go away. As my colleague Zac Bowden points out, there are many separate teams within Microsoft that certainly benefit from Windows users requiring an official account.
At the very least, it’s good to see big names at Microsoft interacting with the community as the company commits to polishing Windows. Actual results, of course, will dictate the success of the initiative.
Are these results a surprise?
Did you expect a different result from our survey asking whether the forced Microsoft account requirement should be removed from Windows 11? Do you know someone who really likes not being able to use a local account? Let me know in the comments section below!
