While Xbox, PC and Xbox from Arrowhead Game Studios PS5 PvE Cooperative Shooter helldivers 2 is still going strong more than two years after its launch in early 2024, has experienced several pendulum swings between “it’s over” and “we’re back” throughout its lifecycle, and right now, it’s experiencing one of the steepest declines it’s ever had.
Although the number of players in the game stands firmRecent Helldivers 2 Reviews on Steam have fallen to “Mostly Negative” at the time of writing, and only 38% of the 10,169 reviews of the game that were posted in recent weeks were positive. The avalanche of negative ratings reflects the community’s sentiment about the shooter at the moment, with many fans angry and frustrated with Arrowhead’s handling of the experience.
Believe this particular review sums up how players feel: “You had lightning in a bottle and decided to remove the cap yourself. You’re constantly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and at this point it no longer feels accidental,” writes Steam user Libby. “The balance is inconsistent. Weapons veer between feeling awesome and being completely unusable, with no consistency or clear design direction. Enemies receive upgrades while the player’s tools are weakened, and each upgrade seems to undo the previous one rather than build on it.”
Speaking as a frequent Helldivers 2 player with over 700 hours, I have to say that I generally agree with the points players are making, although I think some people are being a little overdramatic. Still, it seems like there’s always a nerf that accompanies every upgrade, and new or resurfacing bugs every time existing ones are fixed.
It is worth noting that Arrowhead responded to the continued backlash Friday morning.promising that new rewards and deeper campaigns will be coming to Helldivers 2’s Galactic War community-driven metagame this summer, along with promises of technical fixes, clearer and more explained patch notes without hidden adjustments, public beta testing for new updates, and new player progression systems beyond level 150.
“We’ve been following your feedback over the past few days and watching the conversations across the Helldivers 2 community,” the Arrowhead developers wrote. “Helldivers 2 matters to all of us and we want to be clearer about what we’re working on and what’s coming next.”
Overall, these additions and improvements sound good, although Arrowhead was pretty vague about it and hasn’t really given the community much to look forward to specifically.
While I love Helldivers 2 and think it’s a phenomenal game at its core, all of the previous issues have ruined the experience for countless players, and I’d be lying if I said I haven’t really felt motivated to play it lately either. I hope Arrowhead can make significant and impactful improvements in the coming months.
